Inaugurated in 1963, though its activity began years earlier, the pulp mill of ENCE in Lourizán should abandon its current location in 2018, when the initial concession expired at the time by the Government.

  To achieve this renewal, in recent years the company headed by Juan Luis Arregui has announced several projects for technological, environmental and landscape improvement of its Pontevedra factory, as recorded in its extension request, a figure higher than the investment 61 million euros.

Despite the economic impact of direct and indirect jobs generated by the company in Pontevedra, ENCE has faced strong opposition in the city.
